A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And also our forefathers? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
