A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
