a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
