A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
