The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
