The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Eager to roast; 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
