The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
