The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
