The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Are free of blame, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
