The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
