The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
