The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Are free of blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
