The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
