Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
