In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
