Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
