In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
