The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches people's skin 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
