The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
