The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
