The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
