The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
