The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
