The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
