The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
