The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
