The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be condemned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
