The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
