The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
