The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
