The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
