By no means! By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those on the right side. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 Till death overtook us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 running away from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
