Nay, and by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
