Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
