Nay, by the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Except those on the right side. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
