Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning for people -- 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 About the criminals, 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
