The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
