The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
