The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
