The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
