The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 And lo! they will be awakened. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 When his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa. 16 saying, "Go to the Pharaoh. He has transgressed beyond all bounds. 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 In response, he denied and disobeyed. 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!' 24 you pay attention 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
