The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By those [angels] who extract with violence 1 And who softly release the soul. (Of the believer) 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" 19 Moses showed him the great miracle 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
