He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way - this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness of shame: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
