He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
