He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
