He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
