He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
