He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
