He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
