He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
