He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
